Cotton worth ₹27.30 lakh procured at auction

A total of 34.128 tonne of cotton was procured for ₹27.30 lakh at an auction held at the Papanasam Regulated Market on Thursday.

The auction was conducted through the electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform at the regulated market functioning under the Thanjavur Marketing Committee.

As many as 172 farmers from Papanasam and neighbouring areas brought 34.128 tonnes of cotton for sale. Seven traders from Kumbakonam, Sembanarkoil and Salem participated in the e-auction and purchased the produce.

The maximum price fetched by cotton was ₹8,699 a quintal, while the minimum price was reported as ₹720 a quintal. The average price stood at ₹8,489 a quintal.

The total value of the cotton procured at the auction was ₹27.30 lakh.
