Tourists are trickling back to Kumbakkarai Falls after authorities end a nine-day ban on bathing at the falls in the wake of heavy showers in the area.

Heavy rain in the Western Ghats and its catchment areas, including Vattakanal and Pambarpuram, had led to a sharp increase in water flow at the falls.

As a precautionary measure, forest officials from the Devadanapatti range had prohibited tourists from bathing at the falls.

With rainfall easing in the catchment areas, the water flow has now returned to normal. Following this, the forest officials lifted the restrictions and permitted tourists to bathe at the falls from Saturday.

The reopening has brought cheer to tourists, local residents and businesses who have been waiting for the authorities to lift the ban.
