More than 1,000 DMK cadres and supporters took part in a protest in Dindigul on Saturday, condemning the State government over what they described as inadequate protection for women and children and its failure to contain rising prices.

The demonstration was held at Manikundu near the Dindigul Corporation office and was led by former DMK Minister I. Periyasamy. Participants carried rice, greens and vegetables and raised slogans against the TVK government.

The protesters alleged that girl children were unsafe under the TVK regime and accused the government of focusing on social media reels instead of addressing the rising cost of essential commodities.

They also alleged that crime was increasing across Tamil Nadu and accused the government of resorting to vindictive action instead of taking steps to curb offences. They urged the authorities to prevent crime and put an end to sexual violence.

Former Minister R. Sakkarapani and Dindigul MLA I.P. Senthil Kumar was among those who participated in the protest.
