CM Vijay to roll out ₹1,000-crore welfare aid in Erode

The Minister visited the 230-acre Avalpoonthurai lake, where restoration and cleaning operations will be undertaken under Corporate Social Responsibility funds by the 'Olirum Erode' initiative.

Chief Minister Joseph Vijay will distribute welfare assistance worth ₹1,000 crore to around 5,000 beneficiaries at a grand function to be held at the Kongu Engineering College premises in Perundurai on November 3.

Making the announcement, Modakurichi MLA D. Shanmugan stated that the Chief Minister would arrive by road from Coimbatore and grand roadshows have been planned.

Various government departments have pooled resources for the massive welfare distribution, and the Chief Minister is also expected to unveil several new infrastructure and development projects tailored for the growth of the district.

In a separate development aimed at boosting regional tourism, Tourism Minister S. Rajeshkumar recently inspected key sites in the district and announced the formulation of a new integrated tourism circuit linking four major destinations in Erode.

The Minister visited the 230-acre Avalpoonthurai lake, where restoration and cleaning operations will be undertaken under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds by the 'Olirum Erode' initiative.

The Tourism Department will develop a children's park, sports ground, a mini-resort, and boating facilities on the outer periphery of the lake.

Rajeshkumar also inspected the historic Nattatreeswarar Temple in Kangeyampalayam, situated on an island in the middle of the Cauvery river, exactly halfway between Talakaveri and Poompuhar. To mitigate flood risks, the department has committed to constructing a retaining wall and raising the flooring of the temple premises.
